“Between Structure and Spirit” has been juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists 2025 Works on Paper Exhibition. The piece emerged as a happy accident from playful experimentation with various mediums, including interference paint on unique collage papers and cyanotype solar prints applied over acrylic paint. The paper piece is sealed with two coats of resin, finished with a matte acrylic varnish, affixed to a gallery canvas cradle, and finally, nestled in a black floater frame.
The composition features a structured top suggesting a kind of upper scaffolding that gives rise to the more organic, fluid forms in the lower section. This juxtaposition suggests an underlying order that shapes natural forms, and the tension between the rigid and the free.
